The Foresters
181 Cowbridge Road East, Canton [map]
Before you even make it through the door of The Foresters, you're overwhelmed by entertainment options.
Sky Sport (just the one sport, mind), karaoke, disco, pool, darts… how much fun is it possible to have in a single pub? We're about to find out.
First things first though: lager.
A pleasing golden hue there, reassuring condensation on the glass, slightly foamy head but nothing to be overly concerned about, all speedily delivered.
But more importantly - how many sides does this bar have? A lot.
Hmmm, not sure that bloke facing us is entirely up for having his photo taken. Oh well, too late now.
No sign of the promised disco or karaoke, unfortunately. Although it is only 4.15pm - and even we're not ready to disco at that time of day.
One good thing about The Foresters is that they always put health and safety - if not spelling - first.
As billed, the back room does indeed feature both a dartboard and a pool table.
That said, how on earth did we manage to take an out-of-focus shot of a pool table? It's not as if it's going anywhere.

I like the idea of grading places by night-time fear factor - I'm sure going for a drink in The Foresters later on would have been a somewhat different experience.
If you're going to ponce about in pubs taking photos though, it's a lot easier to do so when they're less busy. Also, our little cameraphone doesn't really cope that well with low lighting (see http://pintof45.blogspot.com/2009/02/edwards.html for instance). Hence the daytime visits.
As you've probably noticed, the blog isn't really about 45, we just liked the name. We're shallow like that.
Thanks for reading & commenting. And if there's anywhere in particular you think we should cover, let us know.
The place doesn't look that bad inside. But the place just looks scary.
I remember someone asking about some good pubs to go on a pub crawl in Canton. The reply he got was never go to the Forester, even for a 'laugh'.
These are the sort of risks we're prepared to take for your entertainment and edification. We can only hope you appreciate it.
