Central Bar
Cardiff Central Railway Station, Central Square, Cardiff [map]
A few months ago, The Guardian website ran a story celebrating great train station pubs. This isn't one of them.
Unsurprisingly, there's a limited range of booze on tap but we're always happy with Grolsch.
Even if drinking a pint of premium lager in the foyer of a train station before midday does seem wrong on a number of levels.
There's even a selection of spirits and a cash and carry's worth of cans - although, if you're after a take-out, you're better off going to the shop next door.
Even by our standards - basically, we're always up for a drink - it's difficult to understand what Central Bar is for.
It's got all the ambience of a branch of Big Yellow Self Storage. And you'd have to be the world's most organised pisshead to arrive for your train so early that you have time for a leisurely pint first.

I look forward to you venturing out to the wilds of Old St Mellons where four licensed establishments await your experienced assessment. Have not been to any of them yet but all the more reason to await your recommendation.
Meanwhile, thanks for an interesting blog.
Sure thing - we haven't done anywhere in St Mellons yet, so we'll add it to the ever-lengthening to do list! Glad you're enjoying the blog.
